I made it to the airport in plenty of time for my flight tonight, only to be greeted by a line for the TSA checkpoint that snaked back and forth throughout the terminal. I came an extra hour early, so I didn’t see myself as being in jeopardy of missing my flight. I have to tell you that the line was a surprise. I know that lines in Denver and New York have gotten plenty of headlines for being long, but I wasn’t in either of those places. In TSA’s defense, the line moved steadily and I was through in less than 30 minutes, so it wasn’t as if I stood in line for what felt like eons. I made my gate in plenty of time… and searched for a power outlet to write today’s post.
As I was standing in line, I thought about other times I’ve had to stand in line and wait. Walmart. The DMV. Opening night of The Phantom Menace. (Don’t judge me! We all thought it was going to be good.) The grocery store. Disneyworld. Starbucks. My first Police concert. The list can go on and on. I was thinking about all those lines I’ve stood in, and the many hours of my life that flitted away while I dutifully shuffled forward a few feet at a time.
As I did so it occurred to me – I never have had to wait in line to talk to God. Any time I have wanted to talk to Him or needed to talk to Him, He has been right there ready and waiting. I have always been first in line when I come to Him.
At Disneyworld we had the opportunity to get what they market as a “Fast Pass” that allows you to move to the front of the line for the specific ride you have the pass for. We took advantage of them as we were able, and it made our park visit much more enjoyable. We didn’t have to wait in many lines – except for Space Mountain – and it was great. We were able to take advantage of our time at the park, and my kids thought dad was pretty awesome with his Fast Pass connection.
I have a Fast Pass with God. When I come to Him I am at the head of my line, and He is right there for me. The beauty is that as His child, you have a Fast Pass too. You are at the head of your line, and He is right there waiting for you. You don’t have anyone to wait behind, no constant foot shuffling to do – you only have to walk up to the front and ask for time with Him. You will have His attention. He will listen. It’s who He is. It’s what He does.
Take time today to use your Fast Pass and spend some time with God. It was purchased at a high price, and is worth more than we can ever repay.
